Rubber stamp query?

I have just bought some new alphabet rubber stamps which you pull off and stick on a block!  Im new to stamping and wonder why the ink just slides off the rubber!  what do I have to do to make the ink adhere to the new stamp?

Hi, with some new stamps they have a film on them, I've heard in the past that if you put some cellotape over it a few times it will bring it off, other than that I'm afraid I can't help. Margaretxxx
