I just read your question in ask Alan and Barry
I don't know what the pen thingy is called though  but after chasing beads all round my tray and getting in a pickle I now use a cocktail stick with a tiny bit of something stuck on the end  ( a clue  it's blue)  don't stick it in too hard just lightly dab it on to the bead or whatever

How sad am I?? the thingy is called a PickUp/Piercing Tool! I only know cos I just bought a set of 2 
I used to use an old cable needle with the blue stuff on one end

Thanks girls, I have loads of cable needles, seem to lose them down the side of my chair!!
and I have some of that blue stuff too!
