Selling Cards
« on: March 18, 2006, 03:29:39 AM »
Hi Everyone,
I'd like to add my voice to all those congratulating Alan & Barry on their web site, & this supurb forum. And wish both the guys continued success in all they do!!

Hope it's alright, I have a very quick question, or should that be plea for adivse/help  :D please.

I have been making cards for a few years, & have been very lucky to be able to sell some. Most of the sales have come through good friends taking my cards to work with them & selling  to their work collegues. I would dearly like to be able to find other ways/ avenues for selling the cards; but don't really know where to begin. As a disabled person I find it very difficult to get around car boot sales & the like. Living in London, we don't have any craft fairs in our local area.
I'm sure there must be a lot of experienced card makers/sellers out there with a wealth of helpful advise to pass on to less experienced people such as myself. Any suggestions ( be nice now  ;) )would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
regards,
Kanga

Hi sweetie - I have been amazed since I had my own stamp made how many people have rung me to ask for a card 'cos they have liked what others have bought/sent - I also made some fliers and posted them through doors nearby and have just got my first wedding to do- its a slow start but its been worth it. Also my corner shop has agreed to have a box on the counter - sale or return - you could also try local hairdressers, florists or gift shops to see if they would sell them for you and then you just pop in once every so often to see how things are going or take new stock.
Good luck with it all - hope this helps.

Hiya,
Used to live in London, and have similiar problems, not being able to work etc.  My advice would be to ask for a stall at a school or Church fete, if you have someone to help with fetching & carrying.  I designed my own label with graphics & contact details & always put these on back of cards & on cello bag.  Also local gift/card shops & florists, are worth a try, but that means producing extra stock.  By searching internet I found a local person selling hampers for special ocasions & have offered to produce appropriate cards.  Also I am thinking of starting my own website, and linking it others.  It is hard to get going, but persevere !

you dont need to buy a stamp if you have a computer. Print out some small labels and put them on your packets.and the backs of cards.  ::)Name plus phone no. You never know what might happen.
