Title: Rub - ons
Post by: Dram on March 25, 2006, 05:08:49 PM
Has anyone found they have a lot of trouble to use the gold and silver rub ons? I have bad hands and thought it was just me being feeble but my friend had the same bother when she was trying to use hers. No matter how hard you rub with your lolly stick, you can't get the pictures/letters to rub off. I bought a big pack of them last year from a certain shopping channel. I've now resorted to cutting around the whole thing and sticking them to card or paper. Any tips would be welcome.  ::)

I had the samre trouble with a set of silver ones at Christmas, I am afraid that I resrted to the same tactics as you and just used them as embellishments. I bought mine from a shop in town!

Must admit I haven't tried the gold or silver rub-ons.  I have enough trouble with ordainary ones!!  I usually end up with images everywhere but where I want them.  My local craft shop shut down and was selling everything off cheap.  I got hold of a few big sheets of black lettering but I've lost count of how many are stuck to everything except my cards!![/color]

It would appear that there's a lot of these rub ons not working. I had no bother from the first ones, coloured Xmas ones I bought some years ago but the "new" ones aren't much good. I'll keep on trying from time to time.  ::)

I also had no trouble with Xmas ones I bought a long while ago but bought some flower ones (really nice) probably from the same shopping channel, the trouble I have with those, if you rub long enough and I mean a long time they do eventually come off but a few haven't and I have ruined a good card so only try them now on a layer (matt) which really is not the object but am trying to use them up.  They do look so nice when they work.

Hi rub ons..............warm them up first then use your lolly stick, if this doesn't work use a large embossing tool to run off.

I have no problem with the flower peel offs, but as you say the gold and silver are difficult.
Like Dram I rubbed and rubbed to no avail and ended up with scratch marks on my card.
I find now if you cut the wording out and rub over gently, then keep lifting one end until it starts to come away. Once it starts rub gently whilst peeling plastic away. I've tried lolly stick and embossing tool. Now use bone folder - no scratches on card - works alot better.

I had the same problem, but if you use a large embossing tool and mat i found they came off ok.

I think the problem is the glue dries up a bit...so heating it gently should melt the sticky stuff .....

:) Rub ons and me fell out a long time ago and I threw the lot in the bin after spending hours on a special card only to ruin it right at the end. They seem to have a mind of their own and jump on things while in the drawer....spooky man....lol ;D
