Title: JUNK MAIL and THOSE BILLS etc
Post by: fotofool on March 22, 2006, 07:44:43 AM
We all receive junk mail and regular bills from such as Orange, credit card companies etc, the potential list is endless.

Why not open the envelope before you bin it, turn it inside out and view the security overprint (intended to make the paper more opaque)

Such patterned printing can be used as backing papers on such as cards and scrap booking etc

If you really like the patterns, Try scanning them into your PC save and print some more. You could even change the colouring in most graphics programs.

I use them for Iris folding too.  Some that can't be used and have windows I cut down and tape or glue to make pockets.  I keep die cuts and bits and bobs in them.  I can see whats in them and it helps keep me tidier., and is FREE

I also save the pearlescent envelopes for iris folding.  You still get plenty without the address on and it adds a nice accent :)

I have used the envelopes for patchwork style paper, I use the double sided film for this, cut a pece of film to fit an A5 sheet of plain paper then cut the envelpoes into squares and stick down in a patchwork pattern, you can then use as is as backing paper, or cut out with a dye cutter, or use for Fancy Folds ect, and all for next to nothing.

I've used junk mail for making my own recycled paper in the past, it looks quite good if you add food colouring to it.  I tried adding glitter but that didn't work so good.

If you like using CD's in your cards why not ask in your local supermarket for some of the freebies that they usually have by the tills.  They usually don't mind you taking a few at a time from the pile.

Save the fancy tissue boxes and then cut the top leaving the hole intact. It makes a good frame for a card. Look at the card I made which is purple and has a mobile phone on and you will get the idea.

I always search through the junk mail and save any "interesting bits".  Perhaps you could ask your non-crafting friends to save for you too.  I have a penpal who hgas sent me numerous things for crafting, even broken jewellery from charity shops.

We use the windows from the envelopes to make snowflakes at Christmas.  Aidan likes to punch out shapes from the adverts and envelopes.  You get some interesting effects.  but you have to get to the post before he does!
