Title: An Ink Pad question from Sally

"Hi, I'm new to this site and to crafting and just a bit confused about ink pads . I would like to know which you can use for embossing and which you can use on shiny card. Some of them say pigment on and others dont. Hope this makes sense.Thank you Sally"

I'm sorry I can't help from personal experience as I've not done much stamping myself 
but Ive just had  a look in the shop here for stamp pads and there is a description there for a couple of the ink pads which may be of some help to you

I'll be interested in reading any replies to this myself  as that is one of the reasons I've not done much stamping as I'm always unsure which pad to use for what

you can use the pigment inks eg Stazon on shiny card and acetate as welll as embossing, some of the other inks are quick drying which mean they for printing & dry to quick to do anything else with. Thats what I was told

Well you have said it right.
Stanzon is a very quick drying ink, very goodfor shiny paper. For embossing you need ink that doesn'tdry very quick

Hi Sally

If the ink pad is a pigment ink pad, then it should be ok for embossing, if the pad is like
a Stazon then it's not good for embossing as it is a spirit based ink used in the pad, these type are the ones to use when stamping onto shiny surface or something like acetate.

I always use a Versamark when using embossing powders as the vaseline content keeps it wetter longer thus holding onto the powders better. Plus as it's colourless, only the colour of the powder shows. Plus you then have the extra benefit of the 'watermark' effect if you leave it to dry. The other thing that's great about it is if you stamp onto vellum and you're not happy with the result, dry it off and stamp over it again until you're happy with the result rather than discarding it.

Hi,
I often use embossing inks on shiny card too.  You just have to be extra careful when heating the embossing powders because it can discolour or wrinkle the card.  It all depends on the cardstock really.
Stazon is my favourite non-embossing ink pad.  One tip is to stand up when stamping on shiny surfaces and press straight down with your stamp - much less likely to smudge it that way.

For very fine detail stamps Versafine ink pads are great...I dont know about the make up of the pads but you can emboss with them and the are brillaint for stamps with minute detail on...Joanna Sheen is a great advocate of them ...

pigment ink stays wet longer, so is good for embossing. I use either versa mark or anembossing tinted ink pad for heat embossing. good luck. ants TTFN

Bit late answering this.  I use ordinary felt tip pens for embossing on orinary paper and cardstock.  Fine for small stamps.

I actually use Stazon for embossing.  Works everytime for me.
